First team

103: Dave Della Torre, River Dell, junior: Della Torre makes the leap from honorable mention after going 43-3 and finishing fourth in the State. Two of his losses came against the same kid opponent in Atlantic City, and he won his first BCCA and second district titles while finishing third in the region.

112: Frank Cagnina, Queen of Peace, sophomore: A repeat selection, Cagnina went 41-2 on the way to winning his second straight BCCA, district and region titles. A third-place finisher in the State, Cagnina already has 81 wins and two State medals to his credit.

119: Vinny Fava, Don Bosco, sophomore: Fava returns to the first team after going 32-6 on the way to his first BCCA and region titles and second straight district. Among his big wins was a victory over Ocean’s Mike Berardesco, who finished second in the State at 112.

125: Matt Fusco, Queen of Peace, senior: Fusco went 40-2 in his senior year, highlighted by a stunning pin over Bergen Catholic’s Joe Trause in the BCCA final and capped by a State third- place finish. He won his first BCCA and second straight district and region titles to move up from second team.

130: Joe Kover, Fair Lawn, senior: Kover repeats on the first team, but it was his first region title that highlighted a 35-9 season. He went to the BCCA and district finals and finished as the school’s all-time wins leader with a career record of 127-24.

135: Matt Spataro, Bergen Catholic, junior: Spataro moves up from the second team after a 30-6 season that included a State eighth in his second trip to Atlantic City, his second BCCA title and his first Region 2 championship.

140: Mike Trasso, Queen of Peace, senior: A .500 wrestler early in his career, Trasso jumps up from honorable mention after going 22-2 on the way to his first district and region titles and his first trip to Atlantic City. He beat Passaic Valley’s Ryan Dunphy twice, including the region final, avenging a loss in the region quarters a year ago.

145: Dan Clarke, Ramsey, senior: Clarke didn’t take up wrestling until his freshman year but went on to win 109 bouts for the Rams, capped by a 42-4 senior season with BCCA and district titles and a 6th sixth-place finish in the State and a move up from second team.

152: Jon Rizzitello, Paramus, senior: Rizzitello makes the climb from second team after going 38-3 this season, putting him over the 100-win mark for his career while winning his second straight district and region championships.

160: Nick Vetterlein, Don Bosco, junior: Vetterlein climbs up from second team after going 37-6 and finishing sixth the in the State. He won his first BCCA, third district and second region titles.

171: Dan Rinaldi, Lodi, senior: Rinaldi makes his third straight appearance on the first team after going 37-2 and finishing third in the State. Bound for Rutgers, Rinaldi is a three-time BCCA, district and region champ and a three-time State placewinner.

189: Jonathan Becker, Bergen Catholic, junior: A third straight trip to Atlantic City resulted in a second-place finish, the highlight of a 29-3 season that included wins over State placewinners Lukasz Stala (215) and Chris Manna (285). He was a second-team selection last year.

215: Lukasz Stala, Don Bosco, senior: This Cornell-bound senior makes the move from second team after going 33-6 and finishing fourth in the State. He started the season by finishing second in the Beast of the East and never slowed down on the way to his first BCCA, district and region titles and second State medal.

285: Chris Manna, Don Bosco, senior: Manna’s jump BCCA from BCCA fifth at 189 in December to State third at heavyweight in March vaulted him up from honorable mention to first team. He went 37-3 on the way to his second district and first region titles.

Coach of the Year

Mike Tota, River Dell: In his eighth year as head coach, Tota led the Hawks to their first North 1, Group 2 title in 23 years and a return to the top of the BCSL American. The Hawks had big wins over Queen of Peace to win the league title and Lenape Valley and Jefferson on the way to the sectional championship.

103: Ryan Murphy, West Milford, sophomore: Murphy, a second-team selection as a freshman, finished the season 30-6 and added the District 4 title to his county championship.

112:Evan Lodder, Pompton Lakes, junior: A 29-5 season and a second straight first-team selection was highlighted by a District 4 title before a loss to eventual Region 1 champion Billy Gould of High Point.

119:Andrew Polidore, Wayne Hills, sophomore: Polidore, who finished 23-4 after being a second-team selection last season, rolled to his first county championship with a technical fall and twin seven-point victories.

125: Colton Chalkley, Lakeland, senior: Chalkley’s record of 32-2 — he went undefeated through his Region 1 championship— gave him the school record with 129 victories and his third trip to the State tournament, not to mention yet another first-team selection.

125: Bryant Lighty, Passaic Tech, freshman: His debut season resulted in a 31-5 record, a runner-up finish in District 15 and a berth in the Region 4 semifinals.

130: Andrew Greco, Passaic Valley, junior: Greco, a second-team pick last season, went 27-11, including a stunning win for the county title, a District 13 championship and a berth in the State tournament after finishing third in Region 4.

130: Luke Rigoglioso, Wayne Valley, junior: His 28-5 season included a District 4 title, a loss to eventual State champion Derek Valenti of Kittatinny in the Region 1 third-place bout and a repeat pick to the first team.

135: Vince Perry, Passaic Tech, junior: Perry, a second-team pick last season, went 29-5 and earned his first trip to the State tournament thanks to titles in District 15 and Region 4.

140: Trevor Melde, DePaul, senior: Melde’s lone season at DePaul resulted in a 27-1 record and a State runner-up finish in his fourth straight trip to Atlantic City.

140: Ryan Dunphy, Passaic Valley, sophomore: It’s two trips to Atlantic City in two seasons for Dunphy – not to mention another first-team selection – after he went 39-5 with a District 13 championship and a second-place finish at Region 4.

145: Bobby Markowski, Wayne Valley, junior: Markowski compiled a 24-6 record that included a county title and a third-place finish at District 4.

152: Joe Wassel, Passaic Valley, senior: Wassel, who finished 38-3, qualified for the State tournament for the second straight season and won both District 13 and Region 4.

160: Tyjon Greer, Passaic, senior: Greer, a second-team selection last season, went 27-6, winning the county title with a thrilling overtime victory, placing second at District 15 and fourth at Region 4.

171: Rob Grimal, Pompton Lakes, senior: Grimal pinned two opponents on his way to the county title and his 31-8 mark also included the District 4 championship.

189: A.J. Mott, DePaul, sophomore: Mott was again named to the first team after his county championship came with a pin and major decision in his three victories and his 31-7 mark included a runner-up finish in District 4.

215: Mike Landberg, Wayne Valley, senior: Landberg, a second-team selection last season, won a county title with three pins and qualified for the State tournament for the first time as he went 28-5 with a District 4 title and a runner-up finish at Region 1.

285: Luke Ramsey, West Milford, junior: Ramsey won a county title with three pins and his 33-5 mark included a District 4 title and a fourth-place finish at Region 1.

Coach of the year

Mike Blakely, West Milford: West Milford went 13-8 and won the county title with six placewinners, including two champions, while junior Will Weaver qualified for his first State tournament.
