Anchormen Get Back to Winning Ways

Providence, RI—Rhode Island College, which had won only once in its last seven matches, defeated Coast Guard, 34-12, in collegiate wrestling action on Tuesday night. The Anchormen raise their record to 11-6 overall and 3-2 in the Pilgrim League, while the Bears drop to 1-12-1 overall and 0-5 in league action.

RIC won five of the first six matches to take a commanding, 25-6 lead. Sophomore Mike Trasso (Lyndhurst, NJ) earned a major decision, while senior Ray Moore (Wrentham, MA) won by injury default.

The Anchormen earned three forfeit wins on the night as sophomore Scott Legacy (Bennington, VT), senior Joe Manley (Wayland, MA) and sophomore Brandon Gauthier (Lowell, MA) were granted victories at 157, 174 and 125 lbs., respectively.

Sophomore Richard Wapenyi (Bridgewater, MA) earned his first win of the year with a 10-4 win at heavyweight.
